Heard from Jake at 3:30 AM(Wonder if he knew that?). He told me rather quickly that he had a new phone number, and I should call him right back. In summary, I developed a wonderful relationship with a Malawian gentleman, who says "hello, yes, no and now Jake Wilson all in perfectly understandable English. This was after at least 10-12 calls to him in an hour or so. Finally, Jake called back at about 5:00AM and I told him about the ordeal. Bottom line: Yes he does have a new phone number , but they advised him of the wrong number. He will be in Msuzu in 2 weeks and after a thorough investigation tell us the correct number. He is fine and can't find the words to express his experiences thusfar. At least we know he's healthy and maintains his classic sense of humor. Where did that come from ?
Califon Dad
Keep smiling Jake... We miss you...
Posted by: Egle at May 16, 2004 07:59 PMhey! wait a minute, that new number is the number of the river horse brewing company in lambertville, thats not an african country code. Couple weeks till the california trip Greg, donny just related to me that he is customizing his garage for your arrival. Tell jake to stop camping out behind the river horse and calling you so late.

Just got back from camping in the trinity alps-very nice country and an awful lot of it. It is quite amazing that this country has seen fit to protect its wilderness areas at a point in its development when there are still significant areas left to protect. I would imagine that the problem where you are will be how much can they afford to protect in view of the economic impact such protection generates.
Look forward to hearing about your settling in to your new site. Don't forget an extra hammock site for me when I come to visit in september.
