Spoke to Jake this AM. All is well and he has been told he will visit his permanent post Easter Sunday. Anyone who wishes to forward something, should be aware that Jake feels he needs proteins badly, since the local diet is lacking in that area. Peanut butter, nuts, energy bars etc. would be great. His host fanily and host village will miss him and his attempts to entertain the kids with his harmonica.
He has bouts with some sort of skin rash that is either allergy driven or is the result of a bite. The Peace Corps medical people are taking good care of him and he sounds so up-beat that he must not be too worried about it.
His new post in the village of Zolokere has been tended to by an American couple, but the good news is that Jake will be able to teach some as well as work on the elephant problem etc. Everyone keep up the good work re: responding to these posts. Love, Greg and Dana
I heard that bugs and worms have large amounts of protein in them. I"m not sure if that can help jake or not. Miss ya bro are you making your own clothes out of hemp yet
Posted by: jason at April 3, 2004 11:28 PMNow that you are permenantly settled life should get a lot easier. Was there another peace corps couple before you in this site and can you at least not have to start from scratch fixing a place up. word is you need more protein -don't understand why peace corps can't do something about it. There has got to be some local source-you don't have to do your own food buying and cooking I hope.
this is a great means of communication-been down to the beach for a while and will be going back to arcata in a few days.
send us a few words in your new language

Well, I think Jake is doing well. Skin rash, scartches, protein deficit, etc,-it is the sign of his physical adaptation,of the formation of his physical immunity. When he is permanently settled- it seems likely that the same will be with psychological adaptation-looking for the intrinsic comfort zone for himself...
Jake, keep out of constipations:)) and crocodiles:) I envy you your good fortune keeping high level of adrenaline in your blood.
yes one word in your new language to determinate your situation now would be fun:)
